About The Author

Ellafe Acosta-Kiamco Cockroft. Ph.D. received her B.S. in Chemistry from Silliman University, Philippines and at 25 years of age obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Her dissertation on Polymeric Liquid Crystals was presented at the International Liquid Crystal Conference in Stockholm Sweden while she worked the grave shift for Electronic Research Company, a division of Textron to optimize in-process glass passivating and aligning layers.

After three decades of manufacturing LCD’s for watches, instruments, and smart LCD modules for commercial and military aircraft applications in Silicon Valley, her son wanted to study and play baseball for University of Miami Hurricanes. The family moved to Pinecrest while she enrolled in “Aging Demographics” with then Pres. Donna Shalala and “Energetics of Obesity” so she could capture first-hand the SoFlo ambiance while having lunch with son’s baseball teammates.

She wanted to understand first hand the Florida Education system as compared to the California System so she taught middle and high school science at the Miami Dade County Public School System, passing the Educatory Preparatory Institute and obtained a Florida Board of Education Certificate to teach AP Biology and AP Chemistry while daughter attended Palmetto Senior High School. When asked by other parents “How do you get your daughter to study while playing Varsity Softball and Volleyball? She answered “By letting them take Suzuki Violin and Kumon Math at 5 years of age”.

The inspiration for this e-book as a text or reference is a tribute to my mother, Estrella Clemente Acosta Kiamco and the partnership between Silliman University and the United Board for Higher Education in Asia.

This actively impacts pre-service teaching cohorts within a dynamic urban and city environment with creative thinking teachers to foster leadership, mentorship, with the continuous improvement approaches rather than a singular linear process.

The authors’ love of teaching to learn led her to undertake the Educator Preparatory Institute at Miami Dade College then received a Florida Board of Educators Certificate to teach AP Biology and Chemistry.

As a polymer scientist with industrial background in LCD and smart module technology transfer, outsourcing, contract manufacturing, the frameworks of developing just-in-time student observation, quantitative measurement, and statistical skills are utilized in a capstone project for design thinking in any environment.
