Contemporary Engineering Graphics concentrates on the main concepts and principles of engineering graphics and provides users with the information they need most in an easy, plain, and straightforward manner. It covers all the important aspects of engineering graphics with emphasis on working drawings. It treats the creation of simple and compound shapes as the basis of engineering drawings and 3D part and assembly modeling. The fundamentals of solid part and product assembly modeling are covered, as well as size tolerances, geometric tolerances, and surface finish which are very importing in the design of products and preparation of working drawings for manufacturing. The coverage of size and geometric tolerances is design oriented and should be useful to mechanical designers and design engineers. Many examples are presented and end of chapter exercises are provided to allow students develop the requisite skills. The Appendices provide introductory discussions about screw fasteners, general and geometric tolerancing, and surface quality and symbols.

About the Author:

Dr Edward E. Osakue is currently a Professor in the Department of Engineering at Texas Southern University (TSU), Houston, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in Production Engineering; from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria in 1983 and 1990, respectively. Dr Osakue obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada in 1999. He joined the Department of Industrial Technologies, TSU as Adjunct Faculty in 2005. Dr. Osakue was Interim Chair of the Department of Industrial Technology, TSU, Houston, Texas; from 2020 to 2022. He was the education supervisor/chair of the school of drafting and design from 1999 to 2006 at ITT Technical Institute, Houston South, Texas; before joining the Faculty at Texas Southern University. Dr Osakue was a faculty at the Department of Production Engineering, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, from 1984 to 1992. He has been teaching engineering design courses since 1985 and engineering graphics and technical drawings courses since 2001. Dr. Osakue has authored and co-authored many technical papers and some books in engineering design and graphics. He has been a regular presenter at national and international technical conferences of organizations such the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Dr. Osakue is also an Adjunct Faculty of Engineering Drafting and Design Department, Houston Community College, Houston, Texas, the nation’s largest community college.
