Author’s Biography: John Montemerlo is an adjunct professor of Economics at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Connecticut. Since 2014 he has taught a course titled the Modern American Economy that served as the stimulus for this work. He is a graduate of the Connecticut State University system and holds advanced degrees from both Trinity College and Wesleyan University. His earlier teaching experience was at Xavier High School in Middletown Connecticut where he taught elective courses in American Politics and AP Economics. In 2003 he received an outstanding educator award from Harvard University.
